Last month we shared a post on how you could build your small businesses brand during COVID-19.
As if it wasn’t tough enough, Google made a huge algorithm update on May 4th. The effects of this change have been felt by every industry.
The immediate thing you should do is review your website analytics (if you need help with that contact us). It could be good or bad news, as the huge changes in keyword rankings have positively and negatively affected businesses.
It could be that you’ve now moved up for some keywords and down for others.
Do this to see how the May 2020 changes have affected your site
First, go to your website analytics tool, usually Google Analytics.
Filter your traffic to show the last 30 days only, it should look like below.
You can see that for the last 30 days, there were 5,862 visitors recorded.
Now we want to compare that to the 30 days before, to see if there’s any short term changes in traffic that we’re already noticing.
Now the chart will update as well as the data numbers below showing the important percentage changes in traffic.
You can see here that traffic increased a whopping 46.04% from the last 30 days. This is great!
The current volatility in Google ranking changes has benefited this website.
To take it one step further, if your website is connected, you can head over to Google Search Console to see what keywords have moved up and down.
It’s important to be ranking for the right keywords, so this huge increase in traffic needs to come from the right keyword phrases that can bring in more customers to the business.
